How to wake up at 6:00 everyday

So I used to see these posts on Facebook and linked in about how successful people always wear the same clothes and wake up early and for some reason they are millionaires. I understand the point with the clothes, I actually do just wear either plain black or plain white, if not then a suit.

The idea is that there is no thinking about it, my friend Geraint made a post about this years ago where he went into why he drinks smart water and I loved it. The point Geraint was making if you go into a shop with the intention of buying smart water you don’t waste time, you’re not standing there assessing prices or looking at offers. You go in and pick up the smart water, you pay then leave.

The waking up early thing… Yeah I have tried it in the past…

And I have failed many times. It would go something like this:

  • set alarm for 6 AM

  • Go to bed

  • hear 6 AM alarm

  • snooze for 10 minutes

  • snooze again

  • give up

I was no Zuckerberg and I was no Bill Gates, I just could not do it. It has only been recently that I figured it out, I now know where I was going wrong. I would have never succeeded in staying awake and that’s for one sole reason:

I had no business being up that early. You see at the minute I’m trying to boost my business, and I have neglected many areas over the years and I’m trying to pick them all up at once.

I used to run my business quite successfully for a number of years, keeping up with positing and content and all the SEO etc. But then I moved to Norfolk got married and had a baby, well the wife had her but I was there! I made the decision to re-vamp everything one weekend, new website, new business cards, new strategy and new focus, then Monday came round and I would neglect the business for 5 days then re-start on Saturday morning.

I actually needed more time and the only place to find it was in the morning, so I started to wake up at 7 AM, then my friend Ross said let’s start going to the gym, so that was another hour I needed to find, so I started waking up at 6 AM.

My morning routine now consists of me waking up and making coffee, playing some background video’s on YouTube and getting to work on the website and working on the social media.

I have also started these blogs, that I find really motivating(as a side note if you are thinking of blogging just try it, my friend John did, check it out here!)

When I go to bed now with the 6 AM alarm set I’m actually excited to wake up in the mornings, most days I clock the alarm at 5:55 and just wake up. Coming from a sales background I have learned that people need to qualifyfor things. So to qualify you need to assess just what it is you’re waking up for.

Maybe you have a business Idea that you wanted to try out, but between your day job, family commitments and social duties you just can’t find the time…this is how you find it.

If you wanted to try it out, set yourself a 7 day challenge. Before you go to bed set the alarm and write a list of what you want to do in the morning, if you write down the things you want to do chances are you will follow through with them.

I would also recommend taking your phone charger away from where you sleep, putting it on the other side of the room next to your list with a glass of water. When the alarm goes off, you have to walk over to it, then make sure you drink the whole glass, then read your list.

You can see why millionaires wake up early, I used to get up at 7:30 roll out of bed and get to work feeling groggy Now, with your brain waking up and problem solving first thing you feel more awake than ever!

With 1.5 hours extra a day that’s over 500 hours a year! If you were to be paid on that at minimum wage it’s over £4,000 a year! Now apply that hourly rate to your business.

It’s not easy on the body either I find coffee is 100% needed, also invest in some eye drops, I know a few of you have already asked me about the ones I have posted on Instagram they are called Dazzling Eye drops from Optrex, you can buy them most places for like £4? But any will help you out.

If you share a room with someone make sure you tell them what you’re doing so they don’t freak out that you have a 6 AM alarm, it will also make you more committed to actually waking up by telling someone else you are going to do something.

Please give it a try, message me on Instagram, to let me know how you’re getting on, I reply to every message and genuinely want to know!
