Back in November 2013, David Blaine released his TV magic special ‘Real or Magic’, I got round to seeing it in mid-2014 and was blown away. At the time I had a list of things I wanted to learn including eating glass, blockhead, human jack-o-lantern and much more. After seeing the special I promptly put the water spout on my list.
After searching the internet and some old books I found no reference to learning this feat, only 100’s of other people looking to learn with some speculating it was indeed ‘fake’.
On January 19th, 2015, I had finally got it down posting this video it currently has over 7.5k views. Subsequently, I receive countless messages asking me how I did it.
It’s important to know this is not an effect and can be highly dangerous and this is an account of my journey, I must stress do not try this at home.
With that being said, with many trials and errors, the lead up to the point of recording this is how my day would go:
I would wake up as normal having nothing to eat, only drinking water if I was thirsty. When I was ready I would drink (as normal) 2 litres of water within a few minutes, (I would recommend starting with 1 litre to start) It’s important to note you do not make yourself sick or gag this will only bring up last nights dinner or murky water, you want clear water.
Here is me on January 5th, 2015 doing just that.
Make sure the water is cold, this way you can feel where it’s going inside your stomach once you feel where it settles, try and move the muscles around it (yes from the inside) these will be muscles you already use but you might not think about. You need to try and squeeze the water back up your throat.
Once you feel it creeping up you need to remain calm and breathe in and out of your nose keeping your mouth closed if you’re doing this correctly your mouth should start to fill, remember to keep your lips closed eventually the water will just squirt out the pressure will be low but if you have made it this far it will build up in no time.
When I was first learning I would practice every few days and make notes after each attempt. I do not recommend filling up with water, practising then drinking more in the beginning, in fact when you’re not doing it you tend to think about ways of correcting it, again make notes and try that the next day.
So to re-cap on how to do the Water spout:
Don’t eat for at least 2 hours
Start drinking 2 litres of water
make sure it’s cold
Allow pressure to build up as you push on the water with muscles in the stomach
Do not make yourself sick
Allow your mouth to fill with water
Remember to breathe out of your nose
you should have a low-pressure spout
