Is the Google Pixel 4 worth it?
/Well here's the thing:
I didn't have any of the previous Pixel phones but ever since I saw the Pixel 2 I started to pay attention and by the time the pixel 3 came out I was one year into my contract with my Huawei Mate 10 pro...
The start of this month I signed in to my providers app and saw I could upgrade to the Pixel 3.
4 had only been rumored at this point and I really wanted to get my hands on it.
After my wife told me I had 'upgraded' to the budget Pixel 3a I immediately called my provider and arranged to send it back...the same day I saw Google had announced the 4.
So I'm sat at my desk now, with my Pixel 4 just to my left, lighting up everytime my hand approaches it. You see it's a very smart phone with built in radar detection, they put that in so it can get ready to unlock faster than any other phone on the market.
Maybe it's too fast?
I have had my new phone since the 24th of October, so that's 5 days with this very interesting phone. The amount of times I have locked it by clicking in the bright orange button on the side only for it to unlock as it slides into my right pocket...frustrating.
I haven't had many uses for the gestures yet, apart from showing off at gigs with my seamingly jedi-like 'powers' and the dictation wasn't activated until last night, but I think that will come in really useful at some point.
I had a play around with night sight a couple of nights ago and I got some fantastic shots of the night sky, apparently it uses AI to assist in pulling the stars through and some other Google magic to clean the image right up. I can honestly say I'm impressed.
The battery life sucks.
As I said I had a Mate 10 Pro before this phone and it was amazing for battery life, I could use it heavily all day and still have a good amount of juice by the time I got to bed, but the Pixel 4 doesn't hold up as well.
I'm still hoping there is a lot they can roll out in terms of a software update that can trim it a little, but I won't hold my breath.
Design wise, It's beautiful and I love the back. it's so textural and feels great in the hand. I opted for the 'Clearly White' and I didn't order the 'XL' like I should have.
Every time someone comments on it, though they think it's the new iPhone, I can't blame them they do look pretty similar.
So why are you reading this? were you hoping that it will enlighten you as to if you should get one?
I stand by my decision, I wish it was better but it isn't. It's packed with great features the main drawback is the battery life, if you can wait for the pixel 5, I probably would, if not then just get one.If you're quick you can grab a free Chromebook 14 like I did.
Thank you Google.
